Faith, Hope, and Charity

Faith can be many things to many people. It is not claimed only by those who are Chrisitans. Since ancient times, many have acted on faith even performing strange rituals such as dancing for days, jumping off cliffs, or offering up sacrifices with the belief that their actions will benefit them in some way. Hope is natural to many as well, whether it be hope in Christ or hope in one’s dreams coming true. Without it, many would despair; hope keeps us going. Charity, however, is another thing entirely. People profess love for their mates, family, and fellow man, yet look at the statistics. Divorce, terrorism, bullying, greed. All of this is opposite of the pure love of God. Having real love, we put others above ourselves. Charity has no room for things like egoism, jealousy or pride. The act of charity is the kind of love which – if it could be achieved as the norm by even half the world - would make our life on earth as blissful as heaven. Sadly, very few people have achieved this attribute. Oct. 21, 2019 for Regina Riddle's 1St Corinthians 13:13 Inspiration Poetry Contest

The power of charity. Nice take on the famous passage in I Cor 13, recited at many, many weddings.

Definitely not preachy but dead on realistic and well spoken/written; we are still evolving when it comes to our behavior and the need to knock down greed as our false father. I like the serious tone, I could easily visualize you at a podium speaking these words with facial expressions to match. Love ya, CayCay

Hello Andrea … enjoyed your take on these three words and their definitions Andrea. If we all could live by your verse, perhaps greed would eventually dissolve - thank you Andrea - Lindsay

Very few if any have achieved this attribute in this world. Mother Theresa comes to mind, but truly, not many equal her in her true Jesus like humanity and her personal sacrifice in her love for her fellow man. <3 :)

I believe charity is the prescription doctors should write to help their patients recover from depression. We live in a self absorbed world and when we look beyond our own needs we connect with our true nature. As a Christian I am thankful for God’s charity. Without it I would be lost. Blessings Andrea.

Andrea, You have opened Pandora's box. And I thank you for that. "People profess love for their mates, family, and fellow man, yet look at the statistics. Divorce, terrorism, bullying, greed. All of this is opposite of the pure love of God." -Richard

Mercy is the most difficult spiritual path available to man. There are others. By the way, I wonder what the difference between the words "mercy" and "charity" in English is. In Russian, their meanings are pretty different. Or are they equivalent synonyms?

Understood. Thank you, Andrea. For me it's the opposite. I mean hardness)

For us, they are very different meanings too. Mercy , for me, is more related to forgiveness and how you judge people with love and not from revenge. For me, mercy is an easy thing to give others. Charity is the hard one!
