Fairy Tale Struggles
Dark lords, grasping swords, eyes on the skies
I thought those fairy tales were gone
Yet they are still told like all such stories partially true
Pretending they are light tales ending in triumph—life is joyous again
Knights in armor, space ships, lasers all put away
Our children play games and toss each others’ fake swords about
Guns and knives have become plastic holiday toys again
It never really ends for mankind this practicing for wars
Do we suspect one day from far far away
Creatures monstrous will take over our lands
Perhaps those nightmares are practice for us all
Within our world or from deep dark lonely universal skies
For our struggles seem real and never end
