Fading

you see
i liked the way
he saw me

pure bone
no lies
he saw the dust
already forming
knew exactly where i’d go

and he loved me
my blood
my black
my pure white
stained in sin

he saw all my flowers
and imagined the
fading
my leaves crumbling
within his fingers

we’d tumble down
the highway
the crisp faded leaves
chasing each other

just out of reach
and other’s hands
and hearts
interfering
cutting love’s
truth with their
axes and demands

but he loved me
with a purity
and with his gaze
she’ll never, ever
know
