Facts We Know
The old reverend minister
As he has been doing
For the previous years
Stood his grounds
And pronounced
These plain words:
“ We certainly know
That Satan
Our archenemy
By some tidal alchemy
Doesn’t want to see us rise
Upon that final fateful day
This fact we know
Yet we wouldn’t despair
Here whilst on earth
He wants us to shun the right
And cleave to the wrong
Nevertheless we know
That his defeat is sure
For Christ our Saviour
Died on Calvary ’s cruel tree
Our victory to resound
God Word to us is granted
Rich assurances they provide
To aid us safely
In our life’s
Journey pathway
Until we reach the end
Of the tunnel
A lasting peace and
Untold satisfaction
They afford us
In this present world
Then when all of life
Is over
When we depart
To meet our Maker
Our souls shall have
Eternal bliss
In that bright land of wonder
Far beyond the starry skies.”
The whole congregation listened
With rapt attention
To every letter, comma and period
Of his entire exhortation
Fresh memories of these sayings
Still linger on.
