Faced With a Monster

Faced with the monster of doubt, a chill spreads
Deep within me, and my heart feels like lead,
It looms far and wide, a worrisome sight,
Stealing away shine of my inner light.

It stretches its shady shape, sharp and dark,
Filtering fears upon me like a shark,
A tough terrific touch, a monstrous maw,
Subjecting my spirit to nature's claw.

It is doubt in the supreme divine glow,
A muddy river that after rains flow,
Streaming from the darkness of black despair
And feeding on the lack of inner care.

I kneel on the ground, though body may shake,
For courage and new faith, the vows I make,
To defy the monster, face it all way,
And wear my bravery all night and day.

With every breath I make a silent plea
For belief and strength to set my soul free,
To vanquish doubt, to dispel away fear
And hold seams of my secret vision clear.

For beneath all and every inner fright
Lies the hidden gleams of light, shining bright,
A moment to seek grace, to understand
And walk with wilful purpose through the land.

The monster may rage, it may claw and bite,
But within I possess an inner light,
A renewed steady flame, a burning will,
That through trials the monster cannot kill.

As the brute slowly shrinks, its power wanes,
My spirit soars and shakes away the strains,
Those chains of dread that before held me bound,
Now I`m on solid, shining serene ground.

The monster of doubt fades, a distant cry,
Beneath a calm cheerful celestial sky
And I`m reborn, with faith and strength anew,
Having faced the darkness and seen it through.

You have used the metaphor of doubt and fear as fearful monsters. Though they suck your energy, you are hopeful that you can defeat the monsters using the light within. As every other time, your poem is profound with self introspection and a resolve to meet all negative thoughts. I couldn't enter the contest as my laptop is down. I have to wait for my husband's convenience to use his computer. When I saw the contest title I could only think of ordinary monsters like a ghost or a demon or some evil spirits. Seeing your poem, I understand that the monsters are within us. All the best dear friend.
