Face In the Clouds
I saw your face in the clouds today;
I looked up and you were there.
You had said you'd never leave me
but I didn't believe you
and wept for days engulfed by grief.
I heard your voice in the wind today.
It softly called my name,
your breath gently ruffling my hair.
I strained to catch a glimpse of you
but I saw no-one there.
Your reflection appeared in my mirror today.
I caught a passing glance.
I thought I saw you smiling,
but in a flash you'd gone
and I was alone again.
The loss of you is tangible.
I still collapse exhausted by tears.
I half look at photographs which
have captured happier years,
but I saw your face in the clouds today,
so I know that you are near
as I pause to look in the mirror
or watch the gentle breeze
Perhaps I should have believed you
when you said you'd never leave.
