Eyes Wide Open
Her hand kept beating on the dashboard
To the rhythm of the music
While singing “Uncle John’s Band”
At the top of her lungs
Almost appearing in a desperate need
To find some harmony that was missed
It was just one of those days
When everything seemed to fit in place
No pains and no problems
Hell
She could almost close her eyes
And it would be 1968 all over again
That is
At least for a very brief moment
Sometimes life hits you like that
But fortunately
She decided to keep her eyes open
As the car continued down the road
With an off-key singer
And a slapping hand
