Eyes Smoldering

Drunk, and his eyes smoldering,
and that’s what she hated,
drinking and he became a monster alcohol created,
he rammed into her,
a string of spit,
after the hit,
stretched across his mouth,
then he struck her again,
he was a total disgrace,
backhanded her across the face,
she felt his rage and heat,
her knees buckled,
but somehow she managed to stay on her feet,
he sensed her fear,
as he grabbed her hair,
pulled her down,
ignored the sounds
as she hit the ground,
his fist pulled back,
and on with his attack,
he struck her again and again,
and once more,
as her blood stained the floor,
her mouth swollen and bleeding,
as he ignored the pleading,
she was his wife,
but she had no more strength
to plead for her life.

I am left wondering "Whose eyes were smouldering?" A sad sight to see, a horrid happening and what should be done is always the eternal question? Light & Love (PS a good self defense course helps alot)

The violence in this poem was frightened, but very vividly written. How sad it is that so many people endure relationships like this! Powerful writing - felt like I was watching "Burning Bed" or another movie on domestic violence. Excellent work, Frank!

I read this against the background of one the write left behind by one of our female poet ... and it brings back the anger I feel against men abusing woman ... when God made us to protect them ... our family, and all the earth ... we must not believe any more that women are our counterpart, but that they are our complement. Thanks for the exposure.

ow my,i can nearly feel it!horrible experience ,a reality,he definitely needs help.being alchaholic is a sickness which no one can cure without help, she needs more help, she needs her superhero to save her;-),im jokin now! but it is unacceptable for women or men who experience this humiliation, there are people who arent being punched still they get hurt form husb. or wife or from others in other ways, words ,manipulation, selfishness etc can kill!great poetry from a great poet as usual!

This was like watching it...too painful, and too real.....but so well written...like Christopher said...makes one cringe....but that's what a good writer can do.

This is a well written sad fact for many a woman. It is sad for the man in this write as well as he has been consumed by alcoholism and anger. Great writing. Smiles from Lolita
