Eyes
Sit down and indulge me
I want to talk to you
“How was your day?”
-I wonder
Is that mascara in your eyes?
I can almost count each curl
And your irises, like a she-wolf!
I’m talking but not heeding what I say
Instead I peruse your face and
Wander down your cheeks, your nose,
Your lips, your chin.
You sometimes smile then draw on your
Cigarette and then slightly look away.
Your eyes come back to me and I say
Something more.
Silence ensues and I draw my breath
Again I greet your look
-We delay
Eyes, what a wonderful meeting place!
