Eye of Afternoon

While the day is bright I am content unto myself And only with oncoming night Do I begin to speak or solitary, write, Reluctant to allow My thoughts to die asleep. The sun is flying overhead, but see... A shadow reaches for the mind And I would leave awake one eye To know the paths I've been, To see me where I lie.
