Expression of Happiness

Emotion is the building block of message It's the paint splashed across the canvas It's the hidden dollar in your wallet There's sadness, anger, envy, jealousy And they come out so very easily But there's also happiness, love, and passion And they come out so very difficultly Especially for the tired and tortured soul Who views himself as worthless A poet's pen may spread black ink But upon his face is an expression of happiness Truly the hardest expression to transcribe It's easier to write when feeling miserable But then a poet's catalogue tells not the whole story For critical chapters are oft unwritten And the truth is I struggle with joy For it is all too often fleeting And in those moments I write of hope With grand schemes to make tomorrow better New start after new start after new start In the end they all crumble before adversity When I go to sleep each night with depression I'm just a shy lad trying to maintain dignity Hoping to find my place in this world And I think I'm finally on the road there And this road will be paved with emotions From the negatives to the positives I'll fill the canvas with a bevy of lovely emotions With the hope that the most prominent one Is this expression of happiness

Christopher, why is this the truth? "It's easier to write when feeling miserable" and it is SO profoundly the truth. A wonderful missive, my friend, in honor of us all.
