Expectations of Students During a Pandemic

Mental illness is real It is not something to avoid; it is not something that should be hidden Around 40% of students struggled with a mental illness back in 2016 Imagine right now how much higher that number must be In the midst of a pandemic, where so much uncertainty lies We are expected to stay in our houses all day And leave the house as little as possible Don’t people understand how difficult that is for us? We are expected to get assignments done, and take exams When the world feels like a total mess right now Life is so different right now and it is unreasonable to hold ourselves To the same expectations as before The school system needs to adapt to mental illness better Students shouldn’t have to feel as though they are alone and as if they have no support There needs to be more supports put in place, standardized testing needs to change The ways that we are being taught need to change Due dates are such a struggle right now for many people The school system does not favour those who are struggling each day to overcome a mental disorder That is a huge issue
