Excuses: a Feminine Experience

"Excuses: A Feminine Experience"
by: Eric L. Boddie

Oh how do I Love him....let me count the ways
But I'm tired of lying to my friends....he's just going through a phase
He works so many hours so if I just get home on time
Why do I have to choose the same time as fighting to occupy his mind
All I want is his Love....let's just get the record straight
If he hadn't been through so much, I wouldn't have to see his hate
If I didn't look so sexy while in the path of other guys
If only I could see that "I Love you" is just another of his lies
If only I could be everything he wanted in a girl
One day he will see just how much I compliment his world
If only I didn't chew so loud when I'm at the table
If I could just be more understanding, he could be more stable
They tell me I should leave, but my Love says I should stay
When he says "Baby I'm sorry," he'll get better is what I Pray
Every time he hits me....pushes or shoves
I have to forgive him....just to prove my Love

Ladies please break this chain....

There are so many factors that figure in when there is abuse, especially when there are children involved. Often it is fear that will make a woman remain. A supportive friend or group can help the most. That is why I have an ex. Your last two lines describe some women I have met but in my case I was dealing with mental illness. A great message offered in this profound poem Eric.

I don't know about this poem, Eric, I'm not afraid to be me. Sad to say, I've seen many stand a punch just to feel loved. My EX once laid his hands on me. The next thing you know, he sat in jail for six months. A powerful poem and message. I think, we women will be alright at the end. Enjoyed. LINDA

I've had friends in abusive relationships, and this is how it starts. Then one day fear is the major factor. There is nothing I can say other than everyone is worth more than this. Nice reminder.

Eric, you have penned such a deep and revelant piece.Only when one learn to love themselves is when they realise love doesn't come in the form of a hit to the face. I know these chains that you speak of and they are hard to break but not impossible to break. Thanks for sharing such a powerful write ! 7 and a fav:-) Alexis
