Everyone's Next Marriage
We came together looking
For a forever going nowhere.
Her loss, my loss
Same loss: true love.
We came together smoking
In pipes and filters
Making love through stares
Into each other's eyes..
Making adjustments
Drinking coffee, living
In exhausted work weeks
That seemed like forty years.
We worked on our home
Our shanty, our one step
At a time.
Pretending a marriage,
But nodding and winking,
Each the other's substitute.
We came together dripping
Our sex on each other's
Brain, rubbers and gloves.
Sanitizing our souls
From really falling in love.
Because that would be cheating
On our true love.
Gone away, a million miles
From here, just a text
From our hearts,
Outcast and an hour
Down the oh well,
Of what might have been.
We come together,
Not so often anymore,
We can only learn so much
About the art of acting
That we are in love.
