Everyone Should Have a Dog
Everyone Should Have a Dog
Everyone should have a dog,
If only to walk in the moonlight,
To visit cirrus clouds against black blue,
Or the man in a super orange moon.
Everyone should have a dog,
To walk at night neath a plane’s tired drones,
To envision folks wearily flying home,
And let shoulders drop and repose.
Everyone should have a dog,
To walk and pause a jogger’s run,
Say hello, encourage their perseverance.
Everyone should have a dog.
To spy that one star brave to beam through even mist,
And catch young lovers in a front porch kiss,
Under buttermilk skies or solid night gray
Everyone should have a dog.
To breathe fresh breezes on a summer warm face,
That wash away any day’s disgrace,
To think of your own special one.
Everyone should have a dog.
