Every Time
Every time you close your eyes to sleep
There is a girl who screams as she is being beat
Every time you cheer on your favorite team
She’s crying “no, stop it please. Please don’t. Please.”
Every time you eat a hearty meal
There she sits, holding her empty stomach
Every time you jokingly condemn your friends to death
There she is taking her last breath
Listen to her faded cries
Look into her peaceful eyes
Was it suicide?
Or homicide?
All her dreams
All that strength
Has now gone to waste
Every time you close your eyes to sleep
