Eventually Understanding Life

While looking through a silent window pane
I watch the vast pounding frigid ocean
The immensity of the gray-white skies
Blanketing the muddled distant white-caps

I am reminded of my youthful past
My wish for fair winds and following seas
Eventually understanding life
The ocean as a shifting metaphor

A mariner plowing the churning drink
Encounters never ending cycles of
Summer typhoons and sudden winter squalls
Returning for a time to smooth sailing

Our courses are set by an invisible hand
Tacking us through the seas of fortune and famine
