Evening With the Neighbors
Allegorically tangled
with pink braids and lips that sparkle with blue paint
deeply connected to nature
while waxing the house plant's leaves
to a green, clean shine...
Perhaps that's me today.
For, tonight, we will invite the flamingos for dinner
-these neighbors long legged and lean,
full of stature and the ability to withstand
the winds of life, standing on one foot...
Let's polish the silver!
Get out the liqueur!
Peppermint, banana
to sting at the tongue
after eating garlic butter escargot and casseroles with French names..
Perhaps they will visit this house and call us
"crazy pickles".
Art deco furniture and straight laced friends.
It's Amore' when they see us taking out our garbage
-their heads full of our redeeming qualities.
But...
When they step inside and breathe our air...
Will they faint for lack of normalcy?
Or will they uncover a tin-foiled plate
full of flamingo pink cookies and, good natured,
laugh at us with knowing eyes?
