Evening In the City

One more evening
just like others
     Later - the city
speaks to us
     the asphalt
  homeland
Lets us know where we
       stand
 On the highway
Autos whizz by
    Take a deep breath
of the night air
Doesn't seem like the city
      will let you go
      Urban magic
works its way
   inside you
Lets touch the sky!
Where stars are just
   beginning to reveal themselves
Over our heads the
   half moon
Shines down on the multitude
All of your questions
    will be answered
  if you look deeply enough
Into the heart of the vast metropolis

Matthew, your interesting writing style reminds me of Carl Sandburg. Great poem filled with vivid urban images. Love, Carolyn

Hi Matt, we have one thing in common. WE LOVE CITY LIFE. I lived in Las Vegas, LA, and MIAMI, where I could say.. cities that never sleep. Nice poem depicting life in a city. Keep on sharing. Ernilando

Matthew your love for city life is always well captured. You can tell the true heart of the city runs in your blood. I used to be a city girl, and used to love it so much, so I feel you. It is real, and it exists as a beautiful thing. I love your poem. Love, shar

Awesome write here, Matt ... haven't seen that many tributes to urban life here at the Soup! I lived in S.F. for ten years and loved every minute of it but it got way too expensive. Besides all the west coast is beginning to feel like one big city from San Diego to Seattle, Washington ... LOL ... but I do miss Bagdad by the Bay ... smile ...
