Eternity Matters

In the middle of the universe I stand Sun watches, winks at the eternal darkness Ignores science and the sight of God It burns out a little at a time to reach an expiration date And contemplates what was Just beyond the beyond, where nothing matters The Bootes Constellation exists with "The Great Void" A little to the right of this we sojourn to the nothingness Deep space, great empty space, grand void within the void When there, you start your journey back from perfect black Traveling at the speed of light to find your way back home It takes some time, 326 million light years to be exact Starting out from any direction, to be precise Would take millions of lifetimes to return you home Sun watches, winks at the eternal darkness Like a burning eye it peers out into space Ignores science and the sight of God It burns out a little at a time and will expire You cannot tell it what to do It already knows the truth There's nothing out there So nothing matters In the middle of the universe I stand Hand in hand with God And wink at the eternal darkness Modified on 2/04/15 for – “In The Middle Of The Universe I Stand”- Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Verlena S. Thank you so much Jan! I appreciate your support of my works. I'm going into the deep remote jungles of Costa Rica in a few days. There is no electricity there. I always fear for my life when I take these trips but it is part of my life. I will be out of action for a couple of weeks. Mosquitoes have to eat too you know. I know for a fact that they love it when Dutch and German are on their menu. Take care. Earl

Hi Jan, I'm glad you liked it. "The Great Void" in the Bootes Constellation is actually 100 mega parsecs (326 million light years across.) Sorry for exaggerating it by several parsecs. I have to go back and adjust the figure. The new Web Telescope will be launched into deep space several years from now. At that time my figures will be more precise. It is lonely out in space. Thanks for stopping by my little spec, my little spot in the cosmos. Have a great universe today. There is so much of it. Earl
