ETERNAL REST

The night leans close with memories intact,
old whispers drifting through a silent chest;
shadows open like a widening crack
as I slip into the endless black.

Old whispers drifting through a silent chest,
soft echoes rising from the years I’ve kept;
as I slip into the endless black,
the soul recalls the promises it wept.

Soft echoes rising from the years I’ve kept,
their lantern-glow a path I can’t protect;
the soul recalls the promises it wept—
I yearn for eternal rest.

Their lantern-glow a path I can’t protect,
old whispers drifting through a silent chest;
I yearn for eternal rest,
the night leans close with memories intact.

Well, good timing. Much of Chicago went dark tonight as a storm came through... As for me, Here Comes the Sn! :) gw

It is good to remember until the end unless a person is not happy with themselves about the way they spent their life. Creative work for the contest which reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. Sara K.
