Eternal Friendship
Awoken by the pulse of machines
I was momentarily blinded by white lights
As I began to stir
I heard a startling cry of glee
My bloodshot eyes slowly opened
To see his face beaming
Tears rolled down his cheeks
And he laughed
"You weren't supposed to wake up,"
He told me then.
My brain was muddied and I tried to understand
But everything came up empty
I knew not who he was or where I was
So I simply stared with a puzzled gaze
His joy seemed to melt from his face
And he heaved a deep sigh
"You've met with an unfortunate fate."
He told me it was simply amnesia
The short version of the story
Was that I was hit by a speeding truck
I was on my way to his wedding
Where I was to be his best man
The wedding was postponed he quickly said
And he came as fast as he could
When I was still quite befuddled
He shook his head and smiled brilliantly
He looked me in the eyes and said,
"You may not remember me now..."
"But I'm going to give you new memories
Because our friendship is eternal."
