Ete by Salvador Dali

transparency is mirrored
       you may stare
   right through
              my chest

only catching
  your reflection
       in the subterfuge
    of rest

the self it splits & triplicates
    stays bound by feet alone
           an ecstasy of horrors
spliced & given space to roam

I'm undone yet placed on parchment
    to bleed & bloom
in equal quarts
         a reaching hand
    that never grasps
             with light & dark
                           ascending thoughts

   all I need is printed
         in signs & patterns
    I can't read
as I float through all eternity
  half-aware of warnings
    I didn't fully heed

Hmmm, Just last year I went to the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg Florida---got to be on the short list of my fav museums ever--wasn't expecting to be enchanted beyond the dripping clocks but it's why we go (fantastic)--and so are your perceptions here (and BTW - you must overthink to go where you did) --Therefore I love how you leave the art separate and let your words speak - which they do - to reflect the same abstracts as he would LOVE to reveal himself!

How lovely to get a visit from you Craig, my discerning poetic friend and favourite mentor :) as I've matured into my poetry a bit more I definitely springboard from the art should the mood strike :) I overthink as a matter of course, I'm sure the calm of anothers mind would feel quite alien to me! Dali was such a distinct character, I can't imagine he'd approve but you never know! Thank you for your uplifting visit :)

the self it splits & triplicates stays bound by feet alone.......... thoughts of Dali as he painted? I am sure. It seems you experience a Morpheus-like affinity with the art, not to explain it but to BE it, in a dream. My friend, the queen of ekphrasis!

Omg thats a beautiful painting! How did you find it! I have never seen it before! Wow! I love it ~ trophy worthy this is dear LG! "you may stare right through my chest only catching your reflection in the subterfuge of rest" theres a beautiful and catchy cadence in those evocative lines; sometimes we see what we know ~ how we perceive can be a reflection of our own inner truth: this poem has that introspective and emotional touch, but flows in such composed rhythm! Its a fave for me! I can go on and on about it as its just ineffable! Sending you light always ~ best wishes

I'd never seen that one either - it just means "Summer" but clearly it wasn't saying Summer to me lol! A considerable amount of my Facebook feed is art, so I saw it there and loved it! Thank you for your effusive praise :) I always need to reread my poem after your comment to see if I can view it through your lens :) thank you for the fave and high praise - it's good to write :)

Wow dear LG! I am truly excited tonight to see you write and poet and an ekphrasis on salvador dali, which is so very soulfully moving! I cant even! Seriously! And its shocking I was thinking of the word " parched" and how to use it in a poem; and I see you use parchment and I am impressed by your use of it! Your poem woke my parched mind up! Honestly! I really love " all I need is printed in signs & patterns I can't read as I float through all eternity" whoelse, would come up with lines such as that? So deeply moving, so authentic and original and one that hits home! And I must look at the painting and come back ... gimme a sec
