Essence of Who I Am

When you look at me
and see what you see,
my hair, my face
you see but a trace,
there you will not find me.

When you hear me speak
my thoughts, my fears
my pain, my sorrow,
there is but an echo
of who I am.

When you seek my soul,
hold my child’s hand
and walk with her,
there lies the greater part of me,
the essence of who I am.
There you will find me.
