Escape
Your acidic tongue drips venom
It smiles
Your mouth a cruel slit
I see it in the streetlights
You think you're the serpent hunting
Flickering tongue
Smelling fear
But I am not afraid
Im Hiding
Here in the leafmould
In the dark
In the mosses
You pass. You slither
Your soul grey scales, deceptive
But I know you
Your rattle,
I silently walk on
You cannot find me
I am this damp earth
The trees embrace me
They'll keep me safe from your poison
Your hands will not breach
Your feet will sink and fail
I see you pass I'll find another way home
You didn't know
I am the hare the toad the owl
I enter mists you become lost in
You can't hurt me now
I'm ethereal, running now
Silent
My footsteps are not for you
And so I find my home
Trailing grasses and beautiful leaves in my hair
I become safe and you
You never saw me
I was the wind that laughed at you
I was the damp
That chilled you
I escaped
