Ernestine
I'm always aware of her presence,
Tiptoeing softly,
Through my life each day;
Desiring to go unnoticed,
And not wishing to be unsettling
To serious thoughts
That might be at play.
Some days she loiters
As if to let me know,
"Don't you dare ignore me,
I'm here".
From within this vast space
She controls,
Come whisperings of things
Crowded out by recentness.
Some days she is my confidant,
Others my partner and lover;
But today she is the irritant,
From which my tears are rooted.
