Ermine Covering

A rare snowfall has left forgiving blanket over all. It’s covering the litter of the late untidy fall. The morning sun is sending rays to sparkle up the scene of a winter white as beautiful as springtime’s luscious green. The nearby hills are shining With an opalescent glow, so self conscious of their splendor in their brand new coats of snow. One of the no. one wins

Hi Joyce-I had to ask Mr. Webster about Ermine..a weasel with a white coating...this is a very nice title...then I went to my 1959 version of Webster which describes this Ermine even better...any of several species of weasel of the northern parts of both hemispheres..which assume a PURE WHITE COAT IN WINTER, except for the end of the tail which remains jet black...and the inside lining of a judges coat which is pure white- emblematic of purity and honor...dontcha just love WORDS? Wow!

Love the poem, Joyce, especially the line about the "opalescent glow." I recall seeing many colors in the snow when sun shined upon it. Your poem makes me long for snow. Beautiful, dear. Congrats on your first-place win in Brian's contest! Love, Carolyn
