Erase the Pain

Erase The Pain

I drowned my pain in a torrent of pills,
Until pain was all I knew.
Cheap wine, cheap drugs, become expensive thrills.
The beautiful absence of mind and soul,
An endless pit which will bury you whole.
Claw your way out, on your minds dirt you'll chew.

Down the rabbit hole buried in despair,
Like Alice I was alone and lost.
Needing respite to allow my soul to repair,
Mad as a hatter, head crazy with chatter,
Sink lower under velvet hammer and mind shatter.
Eternal quiet, erase the pain, peace, pay the cost.

I suffered for years from addiction. I have been healthily sober for over 9 years now but can relate to this poem. My sister took her life in 2010 from alcoholism and depression. The end reminded me of her always trying to erase the pain then finally "paid the cost" with her life. Great poem...Thank you and congratulations on your placement :) -luloo
