Epitome

This epitome is my cloak
of kindness, of solace, of valor
I've reached the final height of my voice
and you've witnessed my soft, finest hour
I'll ask you to leave without footprints
I'll ask you to hold all my tears in your palm
and carry them with you 'till gold dust remains
and the race through your blood stream grows calm
This epitome is my joy
in trouble, in sadness, in fame
As the fire grows charcoal and flickers to grey,
I'll ask you to go, while an ember remains
You never signed on for forever
You wanted to leap with the wind
I'm warm enough now, please turn down the bed
and leave me in darkness, my friend.
