Epitaph For the Test Dogs

Epitaph for the Test Dogs

What you did for us, not many know,
because you did it so long ago.
Victoria’s reign to flapper days,
you lived in labs while other dogs played.

Pancreas removed from each of you,
you were, then, rendered diabetic too.
Were insulin shots something to trust?
Since they worked for you, they were tried on us.

They worked like magic when they were tried.
Type I diabetics no longer died.
To you, furry friends, this tribute we give.
You gave up normal lives so we could live.

Contest: How you live or have been healed from a difficult and challenging health condition?

oh Jennifer, it is so awful what we have done to animals in general, isn't it?? I just recently saw the doc. Down winders about the impact of the nuclear testing done in Nevada on those in Utah. We put dogs in Nevada in cages after testing..HORRIFIC

A nice tribute to laboratory dogs / animals. Their lives are not valued like human life……but they give such unconditional love they should be……The positive outcomes are advances in medicine that would not be possible otherwise. Kudos, SuZ

Thank you SuZ! Yes, without their gift of their bodies for experiments, I, a Type I diabetic, would have died ten or twelve years ago. I got diagnosed in 2008, and a starvation diet would have bought me two more years of life max, according to everything I’ve read about it.

I didn't know about the research. Indeed they were sacrificed so humans could live. Many thanks for this insight, Jennifer.
