Epileptic I Be
Within this span, my thread lies frayed,
A tumbling start to aches untold.
Cracked thought births fractured serenade,
A stammered plea, a story old.
Six summers young, the tempest wakes,
Friends drift like leaves on autumn breeze,
A burden borne, no solace makes,
Broken I stand, beyond all ease.
The system’s hand, a distant grasp,
A father's gaze, that could not see,
The shattered self, behind the mask,
Only my mother knew the grief in me.
A laboratory life, a sterile cage,
Hospitals my haunt, my constant dread,
Yet, I claw onward, through life's rage,
Meds, a fleeting dream, now dead.
Each dawn, each dusk, the battle joined,
The elixirs fail, the hope departs.
In twenties lost, a promise coined,
Three years of grace, mend fractured hearts.
Then shadows fall, the truce undone,
The demons surge, the body's sway,
Physicians keen, but cures spun,
Forty-six years enslaved this way.
No balm to soothe, a chair's embrace,
Thousands in storms, my spirit bleeds,
Yet, I persist, with weary grace,
Though embers wane, I plant my seeds.
My odds may seem a cruel decree,
But victory's song, one day I'll find,
Despite the storm that batters me,
A triumph wrested, for my mind.
