Notes About The Poem

The boxing match/murder took place March 24,1962 in Madison Square Garden. I remember the horror of the outcome as vividly as if I'd watched it just yesterday...

'Entertainment Tonite'

Remember when boxing was called the ‘sweet science?’
      I’m actually trying to forget

    First championship fight I watched
Emile Griffith killed Benny ‘the Kid’ Paret

What’s the point of knocking another man down
~ or should I say woman, because now they're also clowns

I feel the same way about boxing...what's the point...to be brutal....I just can't watch it.

Hi Gershon, from the gladiators of the Roman Empire days, boxing, UFC fighting, etc., all barbaric. Whether it’s men or women beating the stuffing out of each other, I never understood how some people find that “entertaining.” Although I think girls and women should be trained to defend themselves, the barbarism of boxing , UFC fighting, etc., was not what I had in mind. Shalom ~
