Engaging The Senses - Sight and Sound
An empty bench beckons me
To sit for a while.
When I do I notice
Lots of little reasons to smile.
Instead of wallowing away
In the grips of despair,
I can see that life
Is teeming everywhere.
If I opted to reflect,
To dream, to reminisce,
I would not have realised
Just how much we miss!
The tiniest purple flowers
Of exquisite forms
Remain inconspicuous
On the large park lawns.
I look down at the tickle
I feel on my arm,
There's a teeny watercoloured fly
A micro spider and they charm.
There's the hurry and scurry
Of the very busy ants.
The birds seek out their partners
In a comical dance.
The plumage of each pigeon
Has unique placement of colour.
There's multiple shades to each blade of grass.
The gift of sight is like no other.
The subtle sway of shrubbery
At the gentle touch of the breeze
Inspires relaxation
Helps to put a soul at ease.
I hear the mechanical hum of traffic,
Occasional rumbling motorbikes,
The vibrating clicks of cycles,
The panting of brisk hikes,
Muffled human voices gossipping,
The rivers gentle lapping...
Each sound holds distinction
Though they are all overlapping.
As the cheery sounds of nature
And of human movements merge,
Beyond, repeated echoes
Of the train station are heard.
The whistle. The announcement
"The next train to arrive at platform five..."
When we engage our senses
We're reminded we're alive.
The movement of the clouds,
The dullness and the light.
The ever-changing shapes they show
Causes our imagination to ignite....
Already, so much richness
To the park and what surrounds.
Much greater with all senses engaged -
I've only mentioned sight and sound!
