Empty Speeches
Empty Speeches
©2012 C. Brent Cloyd
Gone are the columns, gone is the crowd
Just twenty thousand, shouting loud
Gone is the hope, debt was the change
Stale words remain, empty and strange
The air is filled with Biden baloney
He pleads the case for a liberal crony
Praises a job well done, but not complete
In anger cajoles voters to not unseat
Introduced with great pomp and circumstance
We hear of one who will give us a chance
Then strutting to the stage with toothy grin
He tells us about Republican sin
“It’s not my fault the economy is bad
But if not for me, it would be real sad”
Nothing new, we’ve heard this story before
We can get the job done, but I need four more
Lectured us about what is right and fair
Let the rich pay more, they can afford to share
Didn’t hear a word about the nation's debt
But the people are asking you can bet
“I need your vote, my contract please renew”
But I ask why, you’ve told us nothing new
Mr. President, wave goodbye, run the race
But I’m voting for another in your place
