Empty Sky
Vacant skies for another watchful day
Winds were present from the northwest
Where the raptors are now that fall is here
Many are watching, hoping for the best.
Getting to the hill early in the morning
Perfect weather is here, just need a fly by
Yesterday was dull no sights of wings
I don’t know what to make of this, I can’t imagine why.
Did they take a different route on their way home?
Or are they spending more time at their summer grounds?
Oh! It’s exciting to see them gliding in a swirl
My ears are straining but I do not hear sounds.
We can predict the weather and sense when it will snow
Why don’t we have insight to when the festivities will begin?
Nothing can rush the parade of the skies
Don’t start the baton, don’t even intend.
Effort and time were spent gazing below the ridge
It will soon be a show and you’ll be in tune
Rightfully so, but it’s hard to leave the hill without
Those captivating raptors will be checking in soon.
