Empty Nest
The sounds of silence in my house,
Reminds me it is an empty nest,
The chicks and birds have gone their way.
For many years, it was bustling with voices and cheer,
Never worrying how the time was creeping away,
Family love and care was omnipresent everywhere.
As kids grew, they wanted their own space,
As wife grew old, she wanted her own space for her mid-life crisis,
The nest grew in size, never expecting its future demise.
The chicks were grown, went to college,
The chicks flew out of parent’s protective cage,
Once out, the chicks loved their freedom, and never came back.
I watch the nest’s memory and history,
I gaze my beloved wife’s picture on the wall every day,
There is silence, everlasting silence in the empty nest of my life.
