Empty Nest

My empty nest is filled with stuff The little birdies left behind. My friends all think I’m nuts But for the most part, I don’t really mind. Without their toys, mementos, books, Of course, I’d have a lot more space But cleaning house would mean That all those memories I would erase. My nest is small and I could use The shelves and drawers for other things Yet what they didn’t take Reminds me of their youth – what joy it brings!

My son has boxes and boxes of "keepers" my late wife saved, and though he has the skills to put them "on the cloud", leaves them untouched. Imagine all the memories destroyed by wildfires in 2019! Enjoy your tangible memories whilst you can! Aloha! Rico

I hear, loud and clear, Ilene! Our nest is empty too, but all the straw and wire remains. It's comforting. And these days, the birds just may be back for a while! :) gw
