Notes About The Poem

7/11/2024 for Paint a Picture Poetry Contest sponsored by Joseph May

Empty Chair

Dad, your retirement home pick,
Serene, with soft ocean breezes,
A porch to be outdoors,
Perfectly matched your calm personality.
Empty chair? I see you.

Awe... how sweet and lovely to think our loved ones will remain in our minds eye. Beautiful take on this! Xo

Thanks Joesph! It was an interesting exercise, writing based on what a picture evokes.

A sad one indeed. Retirement often doesn’t last long. The empty chair missing its occupant. Congrats, David!

Actually, my dad had a pretty good run, about 25 years of retirement and 15 years in his nice retirement house. He passed in 2016 at 90.

A person's chair is a constant reminder. Your poem is bittersweet.
