Empty Barrel

These days, you just gotta be so aware,
always on the alert ... busy looking around
Harm you might step into, so sniff the air ...
dog trouble’s out there laying snares down

Even when things appear harmless as can be,
keep a sharp watch out for a rude intrude
‘Cause a calm situation can change drastically,
with one ricochet word from a bad attitude

You simply gotta be more aware
of a loaded gun from an empty barrel
Of somebody lead poisoning the air,
fatally shooting a bullet-shaped arrow

Danger is lurking out there everywhere,
from loaded guns held by empty barrels
Death is dueling on an expiring time share,
a Caesar is mixing it up with a Pharaoh

Be mindful when you hear a percolating sound,
and extra wary when seeing a heated exchange
Keep your wits when hearing the pellets pound,
just don’t faint when you see the color of pain

You gotta be alert, you gotta be so aware
of loaded guns brandished by empty barrels
When they start lead poisoning the air,
deadly spray shooting bullet-shaped arrows

Young fellas hanging out with your friends,
you don’t know what beef they might’ve been in
Young ladies going places letting your hair down,
better be careful when you’re cruising around town

Older folks at night long tilting the short cups,
out at witching hour parking their gas brooms
Taking house chances, mortgaging their luck ...
arguments change the atmosphere in the room

You gotta be more aware
of the cold metal touch from empty barrels
You gotta be so aware
of the hot loaded rush from empty barrels

If not, you will be running scared
from those loaded guns held by empty barrels
Your heart will get fear impaired
from those loaded guns shot by empty barrels
