Listen to poem:
A life moves on The empty space A vacancy The smile missed face The heartfelt ache The hopeful joy Of knowing birds Must wings deploy The silent cloak Of no-one there Is draped on shoulders Poised to bear A voice, a note Would lift the heart Small gesture to The soul impart Some comfort In the knowing that The gloss of memory Not turned to matte For vibrant is The emptiness Highlighting your Full presence, yes And more Despite the heartache burn It waits with Love For your return

Dear Christopher, your wistful verse captures the feeling of emptiness with haunting poetic finesse. The pensive quality, softly melancholy, is balanced by a heartache that burns with both "Love" and hope. The absence of a "smile missed face" can leave the heart but an echoing hollow. Beautiful poetry! Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Susan, what lovely comments - you warm my heart. Thank you. This was very specific but I did write to try and allow the reader in; as any kind of loss of someone you love, whether temporary or permanent has an ache of a kind that is almost worse than sharp pain, I think. Susan you are a star in a wonderful firmament of poets :)

What a beautiful poem Christopher. The accompanying picture is so profound. Really felt this one. The second stanza, in particular, is stunning. Well- it all is actually. Read it several times. The last stanza gives some hope. The loss of a loved one resonates throughout and it is really touching. Felt it through your superb expression of the impact it has on the one left behind. Loved it- I’m faving it my friend. Thank you for sharing. Smiles to you :)

You really are so very generous x I wrote this fresh with the pain and ache of absence. You'll notice the chair is a school chair.. is it just to be sat in? Or is it cooling from the warmth of a presence? I love that this piece touched you Christina and that the hope brushed past you too. Blessings :))
