Empathy

I harden myself To ease the pain. To lessen the weight. The weight that is not mine to carry. Every tear, Every sorrow, Clings to me As if it were my own.

Hi Erica. I love this and can identify with it so well. The gift of empathy can at times be like a curse. The answer being to learn to stand back from your emotions without becoming dispassionate. Then opening yourself up at the appropriate time, eg as in poetry writing, which is one of the advantages.Letting all your emotions out and write as you are so able to do.
