Empath

I know I am good
I believe to be just
I’m misunderstood
Way too much

I feel foreign pain
From the book of another
Carry blame and am shamed
But I am a lover

Your tears, wet my skin
Hurt pride makes me sweat
It’s your story, I’m in
For your grief, I have wept

I’ve worn down your heels
I too have been walking
Fatigued from the miles
Your baggage, I’m hauling

I did not request
To carry your burden
I get little rest
My heart is hurting

You don’t see and won’t know
How I love from afar
I never chose to bestow
The labor of my heart

Feeling others pain is both blessing and curse. I hope for you it is more of the former. Being an empath has certainly benefited your writing.
