Emotional Entanglements

When you close your eyes to sleep,
you enter a world tethered to the imagination.
Worrisome thoughts melt away like icicles,
drip by drip,
as your subconscious scripts
your most intimate thoughts and desires.
Dreams penned with raw feelings,
are underscored with vivid strokes of passion.
Your mind extends itself
to a tentative world
outside of emotional entanglements;
where hope navigates fate's treacherous waters,
immune to reality's rebuke.
Wishes and dreams take you to what lies beyond
the self-imposed doubts
that effectively obscure your view.
Life is like a dream, a journey of exploration,
for we have no control
over its destination or what course it will run.
We're all along for the ride,
and the best we can hope for
is to have some say
on who shares the seat next to us.
