Emotional Entanglements

When you close your eyes in sleep,
you enter a world tethered to your imagination;
where worrisome thoughts melt away like icicles
drip by drip;
as your subconscious
scripts your most intimate thoughts and desires.
Dreams get inked with raw feelings,
underscored with vivid strokes of passion.
And your mind extends itself
to a tentative world
outside of emotional entanglements;
where hope navigates fate's treacherous waters,
immune to reality's rebuke.
Wishes and dreams take you to what lies beyond
self-imposed doubts;
effectively expanding your view.
Life is like a dream, a journey of exploration;
yet we have no control
over its destination or what course it will run.
We're all along for the ride;
and the best we can hope for
is to have some say,
as to who shares the seat next to us.
