Emotional Clutter
So many fickle friends have come and gone;
like shifting shadows consumed by the Night,
that my heart pines for their extinguished light.
Early on, they shone as bright as the dawn,
staying a while, till time's curtain was drawn;
then, stepping offstage, they slipped out of sight.
Like actors auditioning for a role;
each flame flared, then soon began to sputter,
as their lies sliced through the truth like butter.
And yet, their aura lingers in my soul;
tethered to a friendly feeling time stole,
and reduced to emotional clutter.
From scuttled dreams, I have managed to save
treasured memories, I'll take to my grave.
