Emily Set Free

Her deepest fears unspoken For whoever's ear to hear Those chains were left unbroken Then rusted in a tear At times some came to rattle That frayed and broken nerve Society, her battle And it she would not serve Then a distant light shown, through the timbers one dark night The darkness flown, freedom her own Emily, clothed in white, drifted in that light She left a thousand seeds or two In pages and in script Amazing she; a genius, though They all thought she had flipped For they had all believed a lie But - she'd answered a strong will Could that have been her alibi? Child closeted - "Be still" Her soul had yearned for heaven To break free from the spell She spoke where to find heaven And then where to find hell Her deepest fears, unspoken But her silent words now heard Her rusted chains are broken Flown now - a lovely bird

Such a beautiful piece BJ on Emily Dickinson, a wonderful poet who continues to inspire us. Have you see the movie on her life 'A Quiet Passion' ? I've got it on DVD, it's well worth a look. Blessings always,Gordon

Thank you Harry, wouldn't it be nice if each poem and thought of gratitude we have toward a departed loved one, be they poet, author, family, or friend, was given to them in heaven? That would truly bless my heart :) <3 I love Emily so much, she sure is an inspiration to me.

Thank you, Vijay, I truly love Emily, and if this tribute helps others to read her beautiful works I am truly blessed. I can imagine her in her upstairs room, gazing out through her window and seeing a world that for some reason she could not attend to, but then sitting down and sharing so very much of her musings on scraps of paper, envelopes, just bursting the treasure of the beautiful essence of her soul. She set her musings free from her precious heart and all those treasures found after she'd flown free from her cage of this life. Now we are blessed to have them forever!

Thank you Gershon, I appreciate your stopping by and uplifting words :) Emily is my favorite poetess ever, besides some wonderful poets on Poetry Soup of course! I marvel at the treasure she left behind when she flew the confines of this world, precious gems of amazing poetry. Someday on the other side I'll get in line to meet her, hopefully she is cured of her shyness in heaven :)
