Emigration

Exiled from my homeland,
Excited and scared, I
Entered a new country.
Expressing myself in
English, I struggle with
Emotions and poems,
Ever yearning for home.

- Hi Agnes, a well-deserved 1st place congratulations - I think it's a nice thing to do, to congratulate all one by one - in the contest I participate in - As a little "thank you for the match" regards ..... - Some I have read before and others not - It will always take some time, a long list of winners - But for me it is common courtesy and a pleasure to congratulate :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Hi Anne-Lise, thanks for your congrats, and you are absolutely right - I am trying to read all entries in the contests in which I participate and reach out to the others... but I am woefully behind because it is a very hectic week at work for me. So I hope nobody will feel slighted if I did not get around to paying a visit to their poems yet. Agnes

Hi Agnes! Interesting poem. It reminds me of when I used to tell my students, "If you think English class is difficult, just imagine if you were from another country and English was not your native tongue." I can just imagine how it must have been for you with this short but meaningful poem.

wow, this is a really good one on Emigration. Did you really experience that?
Krampe Avatar

yes and no. I was not actually "exiled", but the rest was pretty much true. I had always written, but was unable to write poetry for over a decade -even though I was fully fluent in English for all other purposes; I teach at a college . And I was homesick for years. But now I am in a better place :)
