Embrace Today
"Don't let yesterday's memories overtake the joys of today."
Quote- by Poet
The holidays approach- but, then come pangs of pain
remembering the yesteryears when I was young;
when my dear family would meet- and once again,
with aunts and uncles, cousins- we together hung.
Back then, my grandparents- the oldest ones, were there,
whom I remember well- and still miss much today,
as well as my dear parents, gone; they all now share
on high- while looking down with love on us, I pray.
Yet, many years have passed; my spouse and I behold
our roles as grandparents, and great-grandparents too.
Gone are the days when families stayed close to fold;
these days- they move away and scatter out of view.
Now, as the matriarch, new joys have grown for me.
Though yesterdays stir memories of vivid past-
just like those days- though less, we mingle happily
to gather close- so grateful for the love amassed.
The holidays approach- but, then come pangs of pain;
back then, my grandparents- the oldest ones were there.
Yet, many years have passed; my spouse and I behold-
now as the matriarch, new joys have grown for me.
