Emberline Express
Question my ability.
Question my worth.
I possess endless time
To battle rhyme and riddle—
Bullets for teeth,
And serrated spittle.
I only need a thought to catch fire:
Matchstick men igniting my mindwick,
Like a train blaring through Lac-Mégantic,
Derailing along the emberline,
Crashing through former limits.
I once thought I had none—
That I was a true free spirit,
Unspun.
I stood at the bridge,
With my mindwick lit.
The Balrog rose from the pit of my doubt.
"You shall not pass,"
I whispered to myself,
And fell—
Not broken, but burning out.
The flame within
Flickered and dimmed.
No light within,
Giving into sin.
My tapestry blackened,
No tales to weave.
breath trapped in skeletal cage
sternum wrapped in tissue’s pain
My face locked
In contorted shades of blue,
Dying in my own refuse.
I shed the skin
For my fear within,
And return a queen bee—Emerald and mean.
Shamed by their hiss, but crowned unseen.
Their buzz is static; I tune it out,
And sting with truth, sharp as doubt.
My target: the part of his essence
I want to attack—
That bleeding organ of acquiescence,
Oozing devotion in blood tinted black.
Between chambers of remembrance,
Palpitations ceased,
Wreaths laid at our feet.
Love’s cathedral with a steeple,
Reaching for the sky,
Crumbling into a heap—
Stained glass windows cutting deep.
I sting the heart that once held me.
Its chambers echo with apology.
But I do not buzz—
I burn and speak,
A queen unbound, no longer meek.
The King senses a battle to the death:
Stinger and sword,
Piercing the abhorred.
He strikes the first blow,
Landing a stab to her Middle Earth.
The guts of her grief
Come pouring out.
She shouts his name,
Blames him for his games—
Anger hidden from the dawn of this age.
Her folded wings flare,
Opening wide,
Like her smile—
Venom primed.
A queen unbound, no longer confined.
She strikes not once,
But thrice in flame—
Each sting a truth he can’t escape.
But she too trembles in the wake.
All the foundations shake.
For venom speaks what once love hid,
And the queen still bleeds for what she did.
Retribution has a cost.
Karma is a blood clot,
Ceasing the beating—
The ticking time bomb in waiting.
Failure of the heart:
Number one cause of demise.
But my heart is the eternal sunrise—
Every day anew,
Every night the resting place
To rebirth,
Redux,
Redo.
Round two.
King Abysmal—
Reign disperses
Into the abyss,
Below the equator,
Under the hill.
Ring of power,
Ring of woe—
Forever binding,
Ever entwining.
Engraved with epitaph
To the very last:
The last drop,
Last breath,
Last age of solitude’s regret.
