Elegy of My Life

My life is like the tender bud,
Aspiring to bloom into a fragrant flower,
With utmost care my kinsfolk nurtured,
But it was destined to wither!

My life is like the ship,
That has no port of destination,
Yet through the tempest, my better half,
Sailed and anchored her at a safe station!

Though I fulfilled my duties not,
My kind kinsfolk banished me not,
I have no words to express my gratitude,
O dear kinsfolk! Let me perish in solitude!!

I'm not surprised John took to this poem, Hemant, it's unique, and the last line of self condemnation a complete contrast to the rest of that Stanza, which gives it a final bite. Great write, and big congratulations,. Regards, Viv

This was an intriguing entry. Each stanza a separate "shrift" building to an unacceptable pardon and a seeking of the loneliness of exile and extinction. Thanks for entering the contest
