Notes About The Poem

Eclipse

the sky goes dim
without a moon, without a sun~
just something unnamed
passing between me and myself:

a thought I didn’t expect,
a memory I didn’t invite,
a silence from someone I love~
each one capable of crossing my light.

eclipses aren’t endings.
they’re pauses,
brief shadows
teaching me to
carry brightness differently.

even grief has its orbit.
even doubt has its curve.
even the heart, startled by darkness,
keeps turning toward
whatever glow remains.

when the shadow finally moves on,
I see more clearly~
not because the light returned,
but because I survived its absence.

just something unnamed passing between me and myself: teaching me to carry brightness differently. not because the light returned, but because I survived its absence. The inner reaction to something so profound as dark when there should be light.
